Understanding "Error" vs. "Undelivered" in Messaging Reports
When sending SMS or MMS messages, you may see different status indicators in your text messaging reports. Two common statuses are Error and Undelivered, each signifying different issues.
Error
An Error status typically means the message could not be sent due to an issue with the recipient's phone number. Common reasons include:
- The number is invalid or does not match a proper phone number format.
- The number is a landline and cannot receive SMS or MMS messages.
- The number has been flagged as unreachable or non-existent.
Undelivered
An Undelivered status means the message was successfully sent to the carrier but was not delivered to the recipient. Possible reasons include:
- The recipient has insufficient prepaid balance.
- The phone number is no longer active on the carrier’s network.
- The number is configured to block SMS messages.
- Other carrier-specific delivery issues.
Understanding these statuses can help diagnose messaging issues and improve SMS/MMS delivery success rates. If you continue experiencing delivery failures, check number validity and carrier restrictions or contact support for further troubleshooting.
